What do you think are some of the greatest moments in West Virgina sports history? I will
lead off with Mary Lou Retton's performance in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Reason: Typo
Even though they lost, I still remember the Jerry West-led Mountaineers playing the Cal Golden Bears for the NCAA Championship.
And falling short of the national title by a single point!! West Virginia has
produced a number of basketball luminaries, among them....not intended
to be in any particular order or an exhaustive list,
Jerry West (outstanding player and NBA general manager
whose silhouette is featured on the NBA logo), Hot Rod
Hundley, Mark D'Antoni, OJ Mayo, Patrick Patterson, Jason
Williams, Hal Greer, Cam Henderson (credited with the invention of the fast break),
as well as others
The Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma was one of my favorites, after being heartbroken over the loss to Pitt that would have put us in the NC game, Mountaineer Nation was down and out pretty bad. Even the Beckley-Register Herald's headline was "They Break Your Heart Everytime". Plus every pundit from ESPN to FOX to CSS and even America had us getting our butts whipped. After Coach Stewarts pregame speech(one of the best ever)we came out and started winning and dominated the game, I think Mountaineer Nation breathed a little better and felt better about itself after the win. The Runaway Beer Truck's speech at the end had all of us in tears. It truly was a beautifully night to be a Mountaineer.
Watching the Mountaineers upset Georgia in the Georgia Dome and the party in Atlanta that followed.
