I'm from Franklin County, and these days I'm relying more and more on the Herald-Mail to get Franklin County news. I like their regional approach.
With WHAG being yanked off the local cable and satellite there and the cutbacks at various local radio stations such as in Martinsburg and Berkeley Springs the Herald-Mail will be the only source for regional local news in Franklin County soon.
I wonder if they will keep the J.C Penny building and try to fill it or tear it down. I was never in that Penny's but you would think they would have had enough sales to stay open. they will be competing with the new Weis plaza though for tenants.

I am going to take a guess that JC Penney will have the building torn down. With the Hagerstown store being recently remodeled they can draw those in Martinsburg and Chambersburg to shop there instead. Cumberland draws from Western Maryland and Keyser while Winchester gets the shoppers from Front Royal, Berryville, Strasburg and Hampshire County and Frederick is big enough on their own to support JC Penney. I am not sure who Martinsburg was trying to serve with so many in Berkeley County living near Winchester or Hagerstown already.

I was very upset to learn that WHAG was being dropped in Chambersburg (it's actually still a part of the Comcast channel lineup in Greencastle and Waynesboro). Franklin County is the only county in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area, so I think it's beneficial to have news sources from that area. They want us to have Harrisburg news, which isn't always exactly relevant to Franklin County.

I imagine they'll probably keep it and simply subdivide it among new tenants.

Franklin County was moved to the Harrisburg-Lancaster-York TV market sometime ago. WHAG being a TV station in the DC market yelled and screamed about the decision but it fell on deaf ears. Unlike in Winchester and Front Royal where plans were to move them to the Harrisonburg, VA market but there was such an uproar so much so that it remained in DC.
