Still hate the fact that WVU couldn't reach an agreement between them and IMG. Whatever saves the University the most money while providing the best services wins in the end though, so I am happy with IMG. I like the app, as I am far away from a radio station that picks up Tony and the gang!
I would like to see them turn 1340 into a news talk station (they have a pretty good signal as compared to 740 WRNR) and move the sports format to one of the FM stations 97.5 has good coverage and move the adult contemporary format to the other FM station.
I used to work for Prettyman Broadcasting. Spent 13 years of my life at 1606 West King Street. During that time I saw it all..WKMZ moving from 97.5 to 95.9 and then picking up Greaseman, the end of country music on 1340 WEPM, Prettyman buying WYII 95.9, Lite 95.9 then later Lite 97.5, the oldies on 95.9...Gary Michaels, Stacy Drake, Casey Brooks, Susan & Johnny G. Yogi Yoder, Matt Steele, Rob Mario, Gilbert Miller, Bill Hutton, Jack Thomas...knew them all very very well.
Reading the article I think it is a safe bet to say that WV Radio will probably be moving what is on 1340 right now to either 97.5 or 95.9 considering that AM radio for the most part is dying and it would make no sense in this day and age to "rebuild WEPM" only to keep it strictly on AM 1340. Heck even WRNR is now on FM at 106.5. and that was good move on their part. Now which one will it be..97.5 or 95.9 ?? Who knows but I am sure Hoppy Kercheval would love to have his Talkline show on such a powerful stick like 97.5 reaching all over Eastern West Virginia and those wealthy Northern Virginia counties too.
Hopefully there wont be much in the way of layoffs as a result of this sale unlike what happened when what is now Iheart Media aka..Clear Channel ( then Capstar ) took over a bunch of stations in Winchester and Charles Town. Unfortunately many people were shown the door as a result of that sale.
