Hello, we are going to relocate to either northern W. Va. or northern Ky. I would prefer W. Va. because I love the beauty of this state. My question is, taxes ..... does W. Va. tax Social Security retirement benefits ? Pensions from other places ? Is there state taxes that are charged on SS benefits ?

I also read somewhere online that there is personal property taxes ? What are items that may be taxed for this ? What about a mobile home, is that considered a separate tax from the property tax on the land ? We are considering having a pre fab or "kit" home delivered on property that we will purchase, but not an actual "mobile home". Is there any distinction on this ?

I've looked online and cannot seem to find the answer to these questions.

thanks in advance, I look forward to finding more info.

Melissa

WV income tax works off of the Adjusted Gross Income figure from your federal income tax form. That's normally the last number on the front of your 1040. If your SS benefits are taxable to the federal government, they will be taxable on the state level in WV.

You'll get two bills for personal property tax. One for real estate and the other for everything else that is subject to taxes (like vehicles). You have to prove your car taxes are paid in order to get your license plate renewed. I'm not sure, but I THINK a mobile home is considered like a vehicle for property tax purposes.

If it has an axel its considered a vehicle.

Modular homes are treated like stick built homes. Doublewides are a bit of a grey area; some have axels and some don't
