The original cemetary was moved when they built the Turnpike. I assume that relatives had the choice as to where they wanted the graves to be moved. I don't know who was in charge of the moves, but there should be records somewhere.
I have been trying to find someone that might have information about the
cemetery in Marmet West Virginia.. Anyone that might have the old layout of the cemetery before and after the turnpike was built. I was born in Marmet but back then I didn't think much about cemeteries sorry to say. Would also like to hear from anyone from Marmet. Miss my home ...
hello..i am from marmet west virginia. i lived there for the first 7 years of my life. we lived on ohio avenue and i always enjoyed watching the trains go by at night. i know the old layout of marmet cemetary before and after the turnpike was built but if you can tell me what you need to know, i can help. i have a lot of relatives buried at marmet cemetary. i miss it too. all the memories.
I was at the old Marmet cemetary only once, when my father was buried there in 1952. The part where my Grandfather, Grandmother, and father were buried was, as I remember rather hilly, with a tree growing nearby.
As for the Reynolds Memorial. It was paid for by my Grandfather, in memory of his dead wife. My father helped to build it. It was across the street from my Grandfather's home across the main street.
Sorry I have not been of more help. John Reynolds
