What about Elkins? Maybe even for a Summer home? Looks great on paper. I graduated from JMU, so I am somewhat familiar with the area, but haven't been there in decades. I don't need much more than a grocery store and decent internet, but I don't want to be or invest in an area that is hopeless. We are kind of from NoVa, but parents live in Orange County, VA...medical facilities in Charlottesville are world class, but I have shopped and visited there, and kind of hate it, especially with crazy housing prices.

I love the mountains and have been shopping for homes in Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada. It occurred to me that if I want to live in an old mining town in the mountains, there is no need to live way out west, when there is so much of it in WVA.

In traveling through WV, the people in Charleston and Huntington were very friendly. Northern VA is too close to DC and big govt. types.
