For many in the business and government community in Fairmont and Marion County, last fall’s layoff of 25 employees at Fairmont Regional Medical Center was a foreshadowing of future events.

On Tuesday, the community’s worst fears were realized when some 600 physicians, nurses and other personnel were greeted with letters saying the hospital, whose roots go back to 1939, would be closing in 60 days.

This is the only hospital in Fairmont and Marion County. It'll be interesting how this affects the city and Fairmont State. The nearest hospitals are now United Hospital (Clarksville/Bridgeport), WVU- Ruby Memorial (Morgantown), and Mon Health (Morgantown).

Default Allecto Hospitals

Allecto seems to buy hospitals with the intention of later shutting them down for tax writeoffs.

But, there will be jobs in the local region for those affected. All local healthcare providers are in hiring mode, and WVU Medicine has already indicated that they will be providing a local clinic with specialist capabilities and emergency capabilities in Fairmont, which is but 15 minutes from providers either north or south.

Mon Health signs letter of intent to build hospital in Fairmont

Quote:
FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Mon Health System has signed a letter of intent to build a small format hospital in the Fairmont area.

Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital Inc. will oversee the formation of the small format hospital, which are facilities accredited by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to offer inpatient and outpatient services, in addition to emergency procedures.

David Goldberg, Mon Health System’s president and CEO, said the proposal is a “perfect solution” following Alecto Healthcare Services’ decision to close Fairmont Regional Medical Center.

WVU Medicine is also building a 100 bed local/feeder hospital in Fairmont, on The Connector. It will have a fully staffed trauma unit.
