What does a vehicle inspection entail in WV? My state has minimal inspections these days, and even when we had more, they were just on the new registration, nothing yearly. We also have emissions every two years, exempt after 25 years.

I have read that WV does yearly inspections.

We have a some classic cars. Some are registered but rarely driven. I have a registered and insured car waiting for an engine to be put in. Others are not registered at all, but future project cars.

What would one need to do if moving to WV with some cars like this, that will be stored?

But I assume if they are registered they will still need to go through yearly (?) inspections even if not driven often (say every couple of summers).

What do they look for in the inspections? Things like brakes and lights, or do they go deeper than that?

Some states are famously difficult to get cars through inspection once they are older. Until someone mentioned it to me, I thought WV was one of the states that didn't do inspections at all, much less yearly.

The inspections are pretty basic and easy at most places. They will register and renew your registration whether you get it inspected or not,the only way they know is from the windshield sticker. Some people don't bother on vehicles they rarely drive but the cost of inspection is less than $20. and the fine for no/non current inspection is close to $120. so roll the dice if you want.In 20 years i've never inspected my motorcycle but the sticker is less obvious than on a car.

OP - you should be able to register your cars as classics and avoid yearly inspections. You would be limited in the amount of miles that you can put on the cars, but you avoid the inspection. I have my '69 Camaro inspected each year ($13) and have been thinking about shifting to classic plates.

Stored is different than driven. If driven put the antique plates as noted. Then the car doesn't have to be inspected.
