Weirton former Kmart building (living in, store, businesses)

I was born and raised in Weirton. I moved away 15 years ago. I’ve only been back a few times for various family events. I’ve read that there’s supposed to be a Big Lots being built and an Aldi. Are any of these rumors true? I’m just curious about what’s going on of my former hometown. I don’t have any family living in Weirton currently to ask.

My mother lives in Weirton, I'll ask her if she's heard anything.

On the phone w/her now - Big Lots is going the old KMart and Aldi in the old small, closed up Kroger that was on Main St. (Freedom Way)

Nothing is going into the old Kroger in downtown. (Probably because the building requires substantial work to be up to code.)



ALDI and Big Lots are both going into the old Kmart plaza.

Yeap, Big Lots and Lodi are both going in near the Kroger at Three Springs. Been watching it for several months. Both have now hiring signs up.

I appreciate everyone who has responded to my post. I would like to get back to Weirton hopefully sometime soon. Since the last time I was there Kmart and Hibbett Sports were in the plaza. Since Big Lots and Aldi are going in. Does that leave room for any other business in that part of the plaza? Since they’re adding those two businesses. Do you see a revamp of that plaza? Honestly I would either like to see a Burlington Coat Factory, TJ Max, Marshall’s, or some sort of shoe store. I know Gabe’s has been there for awhile down the road. But they’ve always seemed to me of a store where they sell junk.

Sorry to hear that - I will have to tell her - she is elderly and really misses the old Kroger as it was close to her and she thought Aldi was going in there.
