The real culture shock will be the great lack of ethnic oriented crime...

My GF's lives in Tampa, she doesn't believe WV has real WalMarts, since all the ones she goes to have guards at the doors.

Other than that, we are pretty much open to any city in WV. A few of the places we've been looking into are Weston, Buckhannon, Barboursville and White Sulphur Springs. Can anyone tell me something about those cities...are they nice areas to live in, do they flood (that is a big concern of ours), how is the crime, etc.? Any information would be very much appreciated and will help us in our search. Thanks!
Having moved from Florida myself and looking for a while, I thought I would mention you should also check out Boone and Blowing Rock, NC. I ended up choosing Mountain City, TN because of the no state income tax, great golf and fly fishing, and I am only a short drive to Boone, Blowing Rock or Johnson City. Since I moved, several of my other Florida Friends have made the move. Just wanted to pass it on.

Some of our people came from Bear Mountain, outside of Boone. Great part of America.

Lewisburg is a great choice. It is home to the State Fair and the Greenbrier is less than 10 miles away. Not much in the way of shopping, but a day trip to Roanoke, VA is reasonable. Lewisburg is the county seat of Greenbrier County, so it has a more educated population.

Personally, I like South Charleston, population 16,000 with a fairly close proximity to Charleston, about 4 miles or less. All the amenities, good housing and schools, churches, playgrounds and a small town feel with a big shopping center just a few miles away.

I thought lewisburg/ white sulfur springs area was very charming and most places the neighborhoods were well taken care of by and large. Downtown is for window shopping mom & pop shops it seems. Deals on real estate aren't as readily available there, however.
