Didn't have to google--my son's got a Montessori-trained teacher!
Ok, I don't live in WV...YET...but I'm there every chance I get.
Great for special needs kids as well as gifted children, and I've got both. Are you going to start a school, or (may I ask) where is the question going? ....just cause I'm still agonising over which town to settle in in WV...
I am asking because there are very (very, very) few Montessori schools in Southern WV. My son currently attends a Montessori school for children ages 3-6 and there are no Montessori schools in my area for him once he reaches first grade. We lived in Atlanta when he was born and my intention was to keep him in Montessori as long as possible (I have a psych degree so the method just makes sense to me). People in this area just don't seem to know what Montessori is or they have been miseducated about it. So, I was just wondering if it's this way all over the state.
In the c-c-c-c-ountry- Montessori is French, and French is baaad.
(Just kidding). You have to really look at the demographics to find areas that offer Montessori. It's just not going to be an offered form of curriculum in the majority of West Virginia counties.
BUT and this is a very big but...home schooling is rampant in WV and the Montessori method is a model...some of the church education systems are using it...this is going to be a custom tailored facility perculiar to the area you live in and each will be different...I certainly would look at the college towns first...Where's Bailey? Oh, Tim....
We had to find substitutes for what is called secondary education here...get them through a good private elementary education and usually they do not become a loss to humanity when they get into high school and college...most people used the Catholic System...many still do...
The offered system is the one funded by the state and directed by the teachers union...both failures in my opinion...hope we hear from a teacher or two on that last comment...
My wife would be happy to comment (if I could get her to post here).
We've entertained home schooling but found that the PS systems where we lived to be fairly vibrant and readily accessible for kids with special needs, regardless of which end of the spectrum they happen to fall.
I know quite a few homeschoolers- ironically they are Catholic. There was an issue with Martinsburg's Catholic school where they charged an inflated rate for folks that didn't worship within parish, so they opted to homeschool. There was a pretty large group that met at St. Leo's Catholic church in Inwood, WV.
Good folks, and I miss them all. Quite a few of the young lads were in Cub Scouts with my son.

Unfortunately, I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. I love WV and I love the town of Bluefield, but I am very disappointed and saddened by the public education offered here. There is also a serious lack of private schools in Mercer county. I have searched and can only find two...neither of which is anything like what I am looking for.
