Martinsburg man invests in geothermal heat system - Journal News

Quote:
Steve Hartman has no agenda when talking about the new heating system at his home on North Tennessee Avenue in
Martinsburg.

"I have no other interest than common sense," Hartman said. "I think this system is a heck of a bargain."

A geothermal heating, cooling and domestic hot water system is being installed at Hartman's home, a system he said will provide energy for all three services. Hartman needed a new heating system anyway, as his previous oil-fired boiler was 25 years old.

Hartman researched the geothermal heating system by logging on to the U.S. Department of Energy's Web site. His new heating system will cost about 20 percent of what it cost to heat his home with oil, according to the research he's done. Though the new system costs more to install than a regular heating system, in the long run it will save Hartman at least $1,000 per year.
Tenn. Ave is right in the heart of Martinsburg.. Smart man. Geothermal will cost 20% of what his oil bill would've been.. Wow.

I wonder if the town of Bridgeport will permit to drill some wells in my backyard and run geothermal instead of NG? Seeing as though this is coal and gas country, I'd imagine some push back if I tried that!!

Edit- saw another EP green project:
Area solar house debuts - Journal News

Solar power and wind incorporated into new construction.. Good stuff. Morgan County has a good core of folks that think fairly progressively on these concerns. I'd love to install a solar hot water system, but I think our current home has too much shade..

A friend just put one in up here and the additional cost was about $12,000. Total heating system for a 1700 sq ft ranch style was about $19,000. He's an electrical contractor and did all the hardwire himself..
