Welcome to the neighborhood! My husband and I just moved to Cairo in late October and we love it here! Be happy to answer your questions if you have anything specific.

I have periodically visited the area for over thirty years. My first mistake upon arriving in the area was pronouncing the town name improperly. The locals call the town KAY-row which is quite different from the Egyptian city. Many years ago all of the phone lines for the area used to run through the North Bend park lodge making it the nerve center of the vicinity. The area had been known for an ecosystem that contained an abundance of natural (wild growing) foods and a good place for square dances.
I've ridden the North Bend Rail Trail from Parkersburg through Cairo all the way to Wolf Summit on my bicycle. I stopped at the old hardware store in Cairo and found it very interesting. People were very friendly there which didn't really surprise me since I'm from WV myself.
When I moved to Cairo I got yelled at and told it is pronounced care-o not kay-ro. Cairo is a sweet little town. The people are friendly and very neighborly. I lived there about 12 years. I moved to Parkersburg because I have trouble driving on dark country roads at night. If it was not for that I would have loved to stay there.
