HI, ok I have been looking for a home in WV, as many of you know from my previous post. I am finding oddles of cool old homes in Bluefield and in Welch for prices much lower than other areas. I have read on these forums that drugs are a problem in this area. I am living in Romulus MI now 20 miles outside of Detroit so I am no stranger to seeing gangs and drug dealers but find our lives do not cross much as I tend to live a pretty straight and narrow if not boring life and stay out of their way. Is it pretty much the same there, if you stay out of their business they stay out of yours ? Or is crime a problem ? Also I have read on these fourms that Bluefield has many historically black area's. Iam white would I be discriminated against there ? Where I live now Romulus is a mixed town pretty much 50/50 and I haven't seen many problems for any one. However when you get to Detroit's norther subs. there is a racial divide that is almost like a wall. Sad but true, although it is getting better, much division exisits in Metro Detroit. It is a very racist area IMHO. I don't want to be a part of that on either side. Just want a nice home I can afford in the mountains of WV so any ifo would be welcomed. Diane
Hi....I just visited Bluefield last weekend and we are buying a second home there due to them being economical. I am not "extremely" concerned about the drugs and such because it won't be our primary residence. The home we are buying is a fixer upper. I did find there to be lots of black people in the neighborhood. Obviously, as with any race and/or color...some were friendly and some were not. I hope you get lots of responses because I would like some local opinions on the good questions you have proposed.
