We are visiting Harpers Ferry in a couple of weeks, and we found 2 bb in Charles Town. One is Washington House, and the other is Cottonwood Inn. I know locals probably don't stay there, but I figure I would ask. If you can give me some pointers (location, surronding, etc), I would appreciate it.

Thanks!
J

Both are downtown Charles Town. CT is a nice, quiet, historical town with a walking tour of several of the Washington era homes and sites. I have stayed at the Washington House Inn and enjoyed it -- it is full of country decor and furniture. I imagined it was dusty, though! I expect Cottonwood is similar.

I think the Laurel Lodge is still open in Harpers Ferry as well. I looked up the website not too long ago. It's at the end of Ridge St. with good views of the River. It is a neat art's & crafts style home; worth checking out.

Look up the county chamber of commerce and follow the member links to lodging. There are quite a few options there. www.jeffersoncountywvchamber.org

Like you said, being local I've never stayed at any of them, but I have appraised the one in Harpers Ferry before it was converted to a B&B and I used to walk past the Carriage House Inn on my way to the bus stop a long time ago when I lived in Charles Town.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the visit no matter where you stay. Let me know if you have any more specific questions in planning for your visit, I may be able to help.
