There is an abandoned movie theater in downtown Charles Town on Congress and South Water Street. It looks like it has been closed for a number of years.

It might be easier to reopen that than build a brand new movie theater from scratch.

Default Movie Theater

I wonder why they decided to build there? A much, much, much better location would be the Jefferson Crossing- that shopping center across from the Casino. Families would have a place to leave the kids while they are in the casino.

Interestingly though, I asked the people that work at that Sheetz last week if they had heard anything about a movie theater. They told me that the only thing they knew that was going to be built there was a hotel- right behind the gas station.

It's all about money and bet Potomac Crossing wants WAY more then the other site. This is a family owned group looking to expand not build it's 100th theatre complex. While Potomac Crossing would be a lot closer for me as in right down the street the other site makes much more sense to a group that size. I bet they want to own the land and I don't blame them especially now with the downturn.

I did get a feeling from the email that it may not happen there but somewhere because he said he was working on that location. Time will tell.

Default Movie Theater

Update: there is activity on that plot of land behind the Sheetz gas station on 340. I stopped to ask some workers there what was being built yesterday.

They told me that a Tractor Supply Co store was going up on that site. They had 60 days to get the land ready for construction to begin. Once that store is built. A movie theater is scheduled to go in behind that.

I won't believe it until construction of the movie theater actually begins. Incidentally I found out more info on the abandoned movie theater in Charles Town. It had 3 screens during its heyday and was owned by a husband and wife. It closed sometime in the late 80s early 90s when they divorced. It has sat abandoned for all that time.

Yeah, but there's one in Martinsburg. Do we really need ANOTHER one so close?
