Hello everyone,

I might have a job at Charlestown Races and slots and was wondering...where is the best place for a musician to live in WV? I am 27 and would like to live some place that has some younger people and girls around and some night life. I currently live in Frederick,MD...I would like to stay here, but it is way to expensive. I play drums so I'm looking to rent a small houses to myself around $500 to $550 a month. Is there a cool place in WV where I could rent a house that cheap? I was also wondering is there are any natural food stores around? Harpers Ferry looks kind of sweet but I don't know anything about it. I don't really know anything about WV, about crime rates, locations, anything really....so any and all advice is really appreciated. Is there any kind of music scene anywhere in WV?

Marlinton is a tad far from CharlesTown.

$500-$550 a month it will be tough to find a place all your own, at least in Harpers Ferry. The best bet is to get the local rag the Journal and also pick up the Valley Trader at c-stores close by.

I would bet that you may be better to find a house to co-rent for $500 a month. You actually may have better options. Harpers Ferry is a great little town, CharlesTown has some nice areas and some not so nice ones- you can tell where the not-so-nice areas are by driving down 340.. Blue Ridge Mountains and up in Shannondale often have cheaper places to rent, but that area is alos a tad hit or miss, depending on what you're looking for that is.

Actually Frederick, Martinsburg, Hagerstown, Harpers Ferry and so forth are similar in terms of cost and so forth. You're going to have a tough time finding a cheap place in any of those areas.

Typically you should expect to pay about $800/month minimum and that's going to be an apartment with no drumming allowed. You may find an older single family detached for $800 to $1000 on the mountain (Shannondale, Keyes Ferry Acres, Blue Ridge Acres, Riverside, etc.) where you could be far enough from your neighbors to make noise.
Pick up the Buyer's guide, The Spirit of Jefferson, Valley Trader, and/or call realtors like Tom Garrison @ Blue Ridge Properties who handles lots of rentals on the mountain.
Being in Frederick, you can certainly spend some time here getting to know the place.
