Beyond all the noise and attack mode insults the fact remains that America has not solved it's own problems to successfully deal with it's poor population. Inviting hoards of poor will not solve poverty but exacerbate it because we have ineffective policies prior to their arrival. It doesn't matter what their nation of origin, creed, gender or whatever subset characterization you use.

The unemployment rate alone is pure logic countermanding passionate stances of zenophobes or misguided social liberal tactics of charity. These populations would be better served investing in the structures that enable an economy in their home town. Things like laws establishing property rights are the thing that prevent them from meaningful participation in global economy. Shuffling American wealth to embrace new welfare clients is destructive to America and to it's citizens as a whole. Playing cards-- ageism, racism, howmanyotherisms... your card game isn't a game moderates are willing to listen to anymore.

You are anything but a moderate, and many of the comment on here are subtly racist, isolationist, or simply very ignorant of reality.

I'm not advocating welfare or charity, but to give these peoples the opportunity to better themselves at no one's expense. If the roles were reversed we would make the same decision to emigrate to another country, the law be damned. To act as if you wouldn't exhibits a certain naivete of the human condition. You were born into a privileged standing compared to the majority of the globe, and are incapable of understanding the hardship they face. No one is asking you to give anything up, but to let go of the fear of the unknown or foreign that fuels your ignorance.

What makes the oak tree strong is the wind of adversity...so it is with man...

When we choose to put limitations on people we denigrate them with our own selfish prejudice...

The ultimate insult to people in general has been the liberalization of this and other great countries.

I am so surprised that France is calling for a rebirth of capitalism after all these years in socialisms squalor.

DK I'm thinking there is a happy medium that present civilization has yet to achieve. I don't pretend to know exactly where it is, but I believe the more we examine cause/effect and understand where things go horribly wrong for human beings is the day we'll be able to respectfully help people. We aren't there yet. Neither is France.

They're tearing down cabrini greens in chicago. A new experiment of mixed income housing units is thought to be the cure, and it's apparently some kind of condo deal so people have a vested interest in defending their claim. I hope they never forget the common lesson every oppressed person in recorded history has had to learn. Therein lies the key. We don't have to work harder, just smarter. If you don't take care of the problem inside, nothing outside will ever be right.

As for the whipper snapper; Something of a law of nature in the nasty arts of manipulation... the trouble with firing a gun at anyone is that it immediately gives your position away. The irksome consequence of tactics and arguments used announce loudly who and what I should vote against. I'm grateful you've informed us who you are and what your agenda is about. It might have escaped someones attention that you were here to sell something. Miraculously I remain unscathed despite the attempts at character assassination.

If you could rid the human specie of emnity, there might be grounds for the great communism.

And laziness is the second rule...I remember that story about the worker ant and the welfare grasshopper...
I suppose its Verboten in the school cirriculum now-a-days...too politically incorrect.

Anybody seen Al Gore?
Snow coming to the Carolinas....ha ha ha...and we fall for these moneyed PR schemes...one after another...

Did anybody mention that education is the route to wealth and success....No...I mean education...not the propaganda we are feeding our children...education.

There is no possible way to give them opportunities when our own people are struggling to find them. I'm a Catholic, and I appreciate compassion, but our first duty is to our own people. You are off base with your analysis. What you are doing is failing to understand the hardships faced by our own people that are, at least in part, a result of the presence of the illicit aliens.

I am reminded of the time that I shared an opinion about illegal immigration with a hispanic newspaper from Atlanta, and I was then inundated with propaganda of a similar academic tone, cliches and platitudes without substance, pointing out that I am an ignorant racist.
I find it interesting that no one talks about the plight of those who seek to cross mexico's southern border in search of better opportunity. In fact, there are people all over the world wanting a chance at a better life, but are unfairly deprived, by illegal aliens who jump ahead of them.

HAHAHA well hinton, to be fair to the lad, I must admit I am a bit of an isolationist. I think I share that trait with many WV'ns who prefer to be left the heck alone. Isn't that in our state charter or is it an unwritten rule?
