In the District proper yes indeed..it's a sea of either extreme wealth or poverty. The DC Metro area in the MD and VA burbs though have the highest income and education levels in the country. This media report is proof however that money and brains don't necessarily equal class!
One thing though...how do you even know this guy is liberal? Let me guess its because its from the NBC? Is everything always a big partisan issue to you? Did it ever occur to you that this guy might be conservative? or independent? or anarchist? What does it even matter? It's a pointless piece of journalistic trash the likes of which are written on a daily basis. Has nothing to do with being liberal.
Money doesn't necessarily = brains either. In many cases, it is inherited, and if it has been inherited within the same group long enough it often = inbred deformaties and defects. I lived right in the middle of Yale country for more than 10 years. Believe me, they have at least their fair share of idiots.
And, my brother in law graduated from uVa. Do you think those folks are always smart? Please.
There aren't many conservative journalists, but those who are typically have more sense than to use that kind of moronic wording.
I remember Bush 43 coming to Wv several times...4th of July and all..using him as a conservative example, I would say his visits were positive and well saying to us...
Why are the DC dwellers coming to Wv to live?...
They followed Jim Lehrer when he moved to the EP 20 years ago...at that time they were asking him why he would do that...ha ha..evidently, they still do not know the answer...
I'm certainly not telling anyone...we're moonshin' hillbillys...been that way for a long time...
"Pass the cornbread, Margo! and I 'd like some chitlin's with my Tofu, please."
Looks like a commissioned hit piece toward the gun and Bible clinging West Virginans.
They wanted me to sign up to comment, so I just clear cookies and vote often. It's an interwebs trick don't ya know, wonder how I could have ever figured that out?
I also saved the page in case it disappears and someone needs it later.

I completely agree that money doesn't equal brains in some cases. And yeah I've also met plenty of UVA grads up here...they aren't all as smart as they think.
What I don't agree with is the notion that there aren't many journalists who are conservative. I don't know how you would even get stats to prove that but it doesn't seem logical to me. I don't really think political affiliation really affects much of their wording. Conservatives/Republicans don't have a monopoly on being educated.
I believe the amount of Pot smoked in college does become a factor with IQ and judgement capabilities...
Bush # 43, Clinton and Obama certainly show severe signs of it's (or somethings) effects.
Why would any journalist, trying to make his/her way in that profession of socialists, want to endure the abuse?
Ya got that right. It is so bad that the one network that even does a half@ssed job of putting out an opposing viewpoint is labeled as "racist" or "radical" and they are trying to silence it with even more Nazi laws. If the network doesn't trumpet the party line, they can't even get an interview.
In the mid 60's when I began college, these radicals were given every consideration under our constitution.
They were shooting police, burning down their neighborhoods and robbing banks (forget her name, but her daddy gave away a lot of food as a ransom...Hurst)
Now, they bask in the day of their power, but it might be shortlived...
America is still America and it can be awakened if the need be...and corrected diplomatically...
As Mao ZeDong would say, "..every communist must grasp the truth, political power grows out of the barrel of a gun."
Next on the agenda? Taking away those guns and stifiling the freedom of speech.
That would be Patty Hearst, erstwhile member/abductee of the Symbionese Liberation Army.
