There were no letter carriers in my town... everyone had a P.O. Box (And I think that's still true today), so you went to the Post Office (twice daily!) to get your mail.

Which causes me to wonder how they get deliveries (like UPS) that specify "No P.O. Boxes" ?

Have been wondering about that myself, I'll be in that situation. I know a relative got UPS and FedEx-lax.

Default Pig in a Poke?

Does anyone remember the gumball machines that had the yellow gum ball with a green stripe and if you got it you turned it in for a little bag they called a pig int h e poke, would have things like little plastic rings , necklaces and different candy..and so on..ahhhhhhhhhh my age is showing..

The first time I saw one of those yellow gum balls was in an article of National Geographic...June of 1942 I think...(had to keep this thing on topic...)

It followed that article on eskimo guest customs and hospitality...where the eskimo elder would let the guest sleep with his wife to keep warm...lost that copy when we moved here from Oregon...drat!
