Rt 51 is getting a huge overhaul too...

Will open up the region to Pa development and spread Pittsburgh to its south...

Wish I were 30...

The gap from Brownsville to California should be finished soon, then you'll be able to go from Mo-town all the way to the South Hills of Pittsburgh on the 43 Expressway.

But the last hurdle, from West Mifflin into Downtown, remains years away.

It is going to be a boost for the Cheat Lake area, but that could be bad!

Bad for the relaxing atmosphere around the lake

There's just one little catch to this project. As stated discreetly toward the end of the article, only an abbreviated version of the southern interchange is going to be built initially. Judging from the signage on the four miles that are finished, southbound traffic to Morgantown will exit to the right just after crossing the bridge over Route 857/Fairchance Road. Southbound traffic to Cumberland, Maryland will not be able to access I-68 eastbound as easily. Traffic will continue straight past the exit to Morgantown but will then have to make a left turn to access the ramp to I-68 east. Below is a photo of the signage taken from google pictures:



Also, a 'FREEWAY ENDS 1 Mile' sign is posted further south before the pavement stops.

It seems that the ramps from Route 43 southbound to I-68 and from I-68 eastbound to Route 43 northbound have been put on hold due to insufficient traffic volume. Currently, there is no evidence of construction on those movements, which further backs up the article's claim.

It's not accurate to say that the Mon-Fayette will be totally finished in West Virginia after the current contracts are complete. But, in any sense, the highway will grant Fayette County, Pennsylvania access to better economic opportunities. Morgantown will also benefit.

There is little doubt that the retards who run state government
will do their best to mess things up, but eventually it will
all be worked out. The connection from the Pittsburgh area
to Morgantown is, by far, the more important. The eastward
connection isn't quite at that priority. Turning left to access
that route shouldn't be that big a deal. Until just a few years
ago that was the case with the very busy interchange in
Carlysle, PA where I81 traffic and the PA turnpike traffic
interact. It's better now, but they got through that okay for
years.
