We're the best there is, and that is most aptly demonstrated by comparing us with the inbred, moronic cretons to be found a short distance to the north in Pittsburgh. The stark contrast in vivid and demonstrative.
CT is right. The cretons in Pittsburgh is very subpar. You need to go to Quebec for good cretons.
Imagine that... I thought they were croutons. But, Pittsburgh cretins are cretons... especially those in the Squirrel Hill area. And, if you use the old routes to get to the 'Burgh you have to pass through that area.

This has a lot to do with topography. The "flat spots" to build in WV are somewhat limited.
The only relatively flat areas are in the Southwest portion (Cabell/Wayne/Putnam counties... the area outside of the
Marcellus Shale region) and the area east of the Blue Ridge.
The other areas have always had to contend with geography
in terms of development, meaning buildings closer together
and closer to roadways and streams since there is less
usable land per capita.
If there would exist a line of demarcation to divide the North from the South....
I would suggest the 'Grit Line...an imaginary geographical line were 'grits are used for food and where they are not.
Those in the South could 'kiss their grits and those in the North would not.
Quite like those Canucks look upon us from their lofty (and cold) position in Quebec.

Speaking of Pittsburgh...it's proximity to West Virginia...and, it seems to me, a very similar background - i.e. hardworking, mines/steel/etc.
Would it be a stretch to say Pittsburgh could be kind of a...WV-like city....seems like some of the housing in northern WV has a lot in common with western PA housing as well...
Plus, politically, they both seem so NOT red, NOT blue within our current political spectrum nationally.
Seems like if there was a city outside of WV....that would be most like WV...Pittsburgh might be it?
Pittsburgh is built in a 'big hollar...the towns in Wv are built in the small 'hollars.
Has nothing to do with politics...in the early settlement days, the rivers were the roads...everything was floated to market...just like in England.
Much of that housing was done by Sears, Roebuck and Montgomery Wards...kit homes bought on credit.
