So I am a new arrival in Kearneysville, actually just off route 51 between Inwood and Charles Town.

I am interested in learning of any fishing hot spots in the vicinity.

Any input appreciated.
Paul

I am not too sure but I do see people fishing on the Potomac in Williamsport and since it does run through WV I am sure there would have to be spots to go to.

I'm thinking the Opequon River would have spots to fish (right off of Rte. 45), as well as places along the Shenadoah River/Potomac River in Harpers Ferry (I've seen people fishing along Potomac Avenue and on the water intake on the Potomac between Engle and Harpers Ferry) and the Potomac in Shepherdstown (there is a small path that branches out from the Shepherdstown boat ramp clearing that follows the river and would probably be a really nice place to fish).

From Rt. 51, head south on Rt. 1, leetown/middleway pike, turn right in the center of Middleway onto Brucetown Rd. Follow a few miles until you pass the Happy Creek section of Hidden River then about 1 mile farther to right on Martin Payne Rd. It dead ends at the Opequon. Good spot to put in or wade from. Or there is a recently built parking area off of Sulphur Springs Rd. on the Berkeley county side of the Opequon.
The Shenandoah off of Mission Rd. @ Shannondale Springs or on the west side there are many spots south or north of the dam.
The Potomac has lots of access too throughout Berkeley & Jefferson.
Also if you're trout fishing you can throw a line into Bullskin Run at the community park just off Old Cave Rd south of Charles Town.

I used to live right on the Opequon. Go down to Sulpher Spring Rd where the road splits after the bridge- good trout right there.

Also- You've got the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers REALLY close- so hit Sheperdstown and Harpers Ferry for small mouth.

Apologies for the delay in replying but we literally moved in to the new house one week ago and things have been crazy.

I appreciate the tips above and will be sure to check them out.

I do note the Opequon Creek is just up the road and it is high on my list so the tips below are timely!

Perfect weather to throw out a line.
WV DHHR has some fish consumption advisories you'll want to look at: West Virginia Fish Consumption Advisories

Here's the link to the DNR to get your license & limit info: West Virginia DNR - Wildlife Resources#

Thanks Clint, much appreciated.

The house has taken longer to unpack than I had expected so I am only now getting around to looking for the fishing poles!
