Hello all,
Of the cities listed:
Clarksburg, Huntington, Martinsburg, Beckley - which would be the better to live in (comparing weather, crime, cost to rent an apt, friendliness, and general perception)? Thank you for your input.
Of the four cities that you listed, I think that Huntington would likely provide the most opportunity for you. Huntington is currently the second largest city in the state and has 30,000+ more people than any of the other cities that you are looking at. Having a larger population base and being the home to Marshall University means there is generally more to do here. We have the largest mall in the state here along with Pullman Square so shopping is plentiful too. Huntington will provide you with about the most mild weather in the state as well. When other parts of the state were buried in snow this last winter, some places with over 2 feet, we only had about 4 inches here. It typically stays warmer a little longer in the fall and starts to warm up earler in the spring here. People here are generally very friendly and we offer one of the lowest costs of living in the nation. We have crime here like anywhere else but the crime rates have actually decreased the last 2 years thanks to the work of our police force here. Here are some crime rates from 2006 (the last year where all cities you listed were reported) so that you can compare.
