I don't know where you live but you certainly are wrong about Elmsford. There are many nice neighborhoods there and from these neighborhoods, you don't have to be on Route 119, Main Street for more than a few blocks to get to the major thorough highways - I've lived in Elmsford and have commuted over the years to Connecticut, Fort Lee, New Jersey, Bronx, Manhattan with no problem. How you can compare Elmsford to most areas of Yonkers is ridiculous....and "pollution all day" - just don't know where you are "coming from".....

I live in East Yonkers, and I agree with you that you don't have to be on Route 9A or Rt. 119 too long to get on the major highways, but after I go shopping in Elmsford I am glad to come home to my quiet Yonkers neighborhood where I don't have to drive along side the huge tractor trailers that trudge through Elmsford everyday, but I'm sure there are nice Elmsford neighborhoods on streets off of 9A and other locations I don't know about.
I feel like I am spoiled living in East Yonkers, since I border Bronxville, Tuckahoe, Eastchester, etc., towns that were named among the best places to live in the entire nation by Money magazine, so it would be impossible to compare my quiet Yonkers street to an industrial area like Elmsford, although I-87 is a short drive from my house with plenty of industrial traffic, I am able to avoid it most of the time and take alternate routes.

I'd say it would depend on where you lived on the east side of Yonkers. If your living on saw mill river road thats pretty much the same as living around the industrial part Elmsford (which infact borders the industrial area).
There's actually a bike path that connects both areas, it sits right between the saw mill and 87. Its a gem but the funny thing is that it starts off in an industrial area and it ends in one!

How are the public schools in Elmsford? I plan to move there from CT to be closer to my wife's job in Harlem. We have a 15 year old in High school and a 7 year old in elementary. Any feed back would be appreciated.

The schools in Elmsford are BAD. However, there is a section by the industrial park (where snapple, capt. lawrence, etc.) that are in the Pontico Hills school district. That is a very good school.

Pocantico hills area of Elmsford would let your 7 yr old attend PH over in the Rockefeller estates until 8th grade. Then your HS aged child can choose from two excellent HS Pleasantville or Briarcliff. Sleepy Hollow HS is the 3rd choice since PH does not have a HS.

Thank you for feedback regarding Elsmford schools. When you say "bad" what exactly are you referring to? academics, school environment drugs, gangs,etc..?

Thank you for feedback regarding Elsmford schools. I'm wondering if they would accept the girls at these schools you mentioned, since we're moving to "Ridgeview Apartments" on Nob Hill Drive. By the way whats "PH"?

All those schools I mentioned are public. But, I am pretty sure Nob Hill would be Alexander Hamilton High though. PH=Pocantico Hills
