Does anyone have any experience with the maternity ward in either the White Plains Hospital or Lawrence Hospital? Also, any suggestions as to obgyn docs would be great. Thanks!!

I've worked for Lawrence on a consulting basis, I know Lawrence has private rooms on its maternity ward, but it has the highest c-section rate in the state I think, 63% of deliveries were via c-section I believe it was.

A high c-section rate may simply mean they have more high risk patients.

Dr Eilen is a great OB/GYN - affiliated with White Plains Hospital.

I delivered at White Plains, overall I had a good experience - so good I'm delivering there again in 8 weeks. I think most of the rooms are private. I did see some rooms with two beds in them but they weren't occupied.

I've heard Lawrence has a better menu.

Take a tour of both hospitals, while on the tour ask the nurses who work there where they would deliver? If a nurse will not be a pateint where she works ( other than insurance constraints ) you dont want to be a pateint there either .

I just spent 36 hours in the maternity ward at WP for a kidney stone, but as I'm 18 weeks that's where they put me. I have to say that it was very nice. The nurses were excellent and the facilities were good (compared to where I delivered my son). I was in a double room with no one in the other bed, but my husband said most rooms he saw were singles. There was a breakfast buffet this morning for everyone and there seems to be a breasfeeding class every morning that new moms are encouraged to attend.

All in all I'm glad (well, sort of) that I a got a little preview and will definitely be fine delivering there in February.

I saw my doctor and another doctor from the same practice who delivery there, Dr. Daly and Dr. Ainsworth, who are both wonderful. There are with WestMed.

Or as I was told its mostly the wealthy women in Bronxville or Larchmont delivering there who want the "convenience" of a c-section driving up the rate.
