Just found your thread. I know it was months ago, but were you able to find anything? I'm an artist moving to the area this summer and am also looking to rent a studio space for under $250. Any tips would be helpful!
How can you be looking to move to both NY and Grand Rapids at the same time? You will probably have much better luck there than here. $250 a month is less than the cost of a train pass out here unfortunately.
Try looking on Craigslist for NY/Westchester. If you wouldn't mind just renting a room to use as a studio you should be able to find something, just click "rooms & shares" and enter your price range.
