My family and I are are considering moving to Rye sometime over the next 2 years or so. I called to inquire about train station parking, and was told there is an 8-10 year wait. I work in NYC about 3-4 days a week and currently take metro north.

Any thoughts of what commuters are doing during the decade long wait?

I was told that either your spouse has to drop you off/pick you up, you walk or bike, or you get chummy with your neighbors real fast to find a carpool. In other words, no really good solutions, unless you find a house really close to the station, your spouse is available to do this, or you enjoy biking in your work clothes in the snow or summer heat.

We basically decided against Rye for of this very reason, because my husband needs to take the train every day. I asked this same question 2 years ago and I'm wondering if anyone has any different thoughts now...

Depending on where you live, you either park at Harrison or Port Chester. Neither are ideal. It's shocking to me that the city hasn't figured out how to fix this. They just finally approved a doubling of the parking fee for next year but even then, I doubt it will make a dent. Note that you also have to pay about $30 a year to stay on the wait list.

My husband parks in metered parking at the Harrison train station every day. On the rare occasion when he wants to go into work late and metered parking will be full, I drop him at the train station. I have heard there are some businesses near various train stations that will rent you a parking spot, but we've never looked into that.
