My husband will be working in Purchase, NY and we are looking at moving to Westchester County or southern CT. We have heard the taxes are much lower in CT. How bad a commute would it be to travel from the Wilton or Westport areas of CT to Purchase? Is the Merritt Pkwy slow?
What about the commute from northern Westchester towns such as Mt. Kisco, Katonah and Somers (probably traveling on 684)? Thanks for any suggestions. We are looking for a nice community with good schools but budget is not that high for the area (less than 650K or 700k).

Extremely easy commute. 684 is one of the best commutes going, traffic usually moves very very fast. Evening rush hour it can slow down at the 684/Saw Mill Pwky merge and the I-84 exit. Unless there's an accident figure on 75-80 mph.

Sooner or later somebody will suggest a town in southern Westchester, usually Scarsdale, Larchmont or one of The River Towns. Ignore these suggestions, they make no sense unless you're commuting to the city.

So, do you think a commute from Bedford or Katonah areas to Purchase could be done in about 30 minutes? He doesn't want to have to commute an hour to work (which he does now in the DC area).

Under 30 minutes, no problem. I-684 Exit 4 to Purchase is under 15 minutes. It's safe to apply the mile-a-minute rule on 684.
