My husband and I are moving rom Manhattan to Croton - we have an infant baby and will both be working in Manhattan (though we have flexible schedules). Can anyone recommend good daycare in croton? We don't know many people yet and I'm unsure where to start! Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The full-day daycare center that I've heard the best things about is All Aboard in Ossining. It has infant care too. Most daycare in the area doesn't have infant programs and isn't full-day.

All Aboard Child Education Center

I would definitely consider an au pair. We had one when our son was younger and we both worked in Manhattan. An au pair doesn't run out the door the second you get home, like a nanny or daycare teacher--they live with you, so you get to talk to them about the day and get to see them with your child. Also, having someone here with your child is a great reassurance when you're an hour away. And if you miss a train and are a little late you know it'll be okay--the au pair isn't going anywhere. If you can afford it, I'd get an au pair and enroll your child in an infant program a few hours a week, to give him/her more contact with other babies (and to give the au pair a break). On the other hand, if you do get an au pair make sure to get one with some real experience with infants.

Thanks you! I'll check out All Abord. As for an Au Pair, did you go through an agency in Westchester?

Keep in mind au pairs can only work 40 hourse per week I think. All Aboard is good. My kids go to Young Wonders in Briarcliff. Several kids in his school live in Croton. Its about a 10 minute drive from the Croton train station.

You can go through any major agency--they all have local coordinators throughout Westchester (ours was in Cortlandt Manor). We used Aupair Care, which was fine.

I think the au pair maximum weekly hours was 45. We used a combo of a preschool program--starting at aprox 2 hours a day, 3 days a week--and the au pair. The first two au pairs always supassed the max hours, but we paid them overtime and they were happy to get the extra money. As our son got older, we added preschool hours and the au pairs worked less. Au pairs are relatively cheap, so even doing both au pair and part-time preschool was a lot cheaper than other alternatives--and it gave our son a good mix of group time and one-on-one time.

We had 3 au pairs (all men, ages 23-25) for 4 years (one stayed on an extra year illegally, which is quite common) and we loved them.
