Hi all....I wrote a while ago asking for towns in Westchester but am now looking for one that has a good high school and is close to NYC for commuting. Our path has taken a different direction and is pushing us to move sooner than we thought. this summer. We are coming from LA. I am looking for an area that is within 40 mins by train/public transit to NYC that has great schools. We will be renting as well and preferably would like to rent a 3 bedroom - possibly a house. I assume rents are high and for houses higher. So please list the average rent price for a 3bedrm in the area as well as some of the schools.
We also have a 2 year old daughter who will need day care, so if you know of a great place in that area, that would also be helpful.

Thanks so much!

You need a town with a Metro North train station. Pleasantville, Bedford, Croton on Hudson are all within a 40 minute train ride to Manhattan. A drive into NYC can take anywhere from 40 minutes (lower Westchester) to 2 hours depending on traffic. We live in Yorktown Heights and my husband drives to lower Manhattan - he leaves at 8 AM and arrives anywhere between 9-10 AM.

Mgdmason...thanks!!!
Are Yonkers, New Rochelle, Bronxville and Tuckahoe considered Westchester? Sorry, I have no idea about the boundary lines of the county. We were also thinking about Rivertowns like Hastings or Irvington. Any insight on those areas? We'd prefer to be closer to the city and in an area more affordable...From what I could tell from Bedford, it seems very affluent. Which usually means good schools, but at the same time, we need to stay in our budget of $2500 and less for a 3bedrm. Tough criteria...

All the towns you mentioned are in Westchester. The Yonkers school system is horrible, you would be much better off in Bronxville and Tuckhoe. Be careful some Bronxville ads are really Yonkers ! Bedfords Hills is more affordable than Bedford. Both Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow are real nice. Good luck.

Both Hastings and Irvington have good schools, but prices are high.

As suggested, Pleasantville is a wonderful community with great schools and a convenient train station, resident parking, and 45 min to GCT on the Harlem Line. You should definitely be able to find a rental within your range.
