Of course it is going to be a very narrow, stereoptypical vision of Westchester. Not too many Mount Vernon or Yonkers housewives will make the cut. :-)

But that is what is so annoying. In general I don't think many people have negative stereotypes about Westchester. Whenever I tell people I live here they just go "oh its nice there."
Jersey and LI have tons of negative press from the reality shows, I don't want people thinking we are like those places.

Jersey gets a ton of bad press from multiple sources...
The show might work if they casted it in Armonk or Harrison, but Rye? Too vanilla - not enough drama there - or anywhere around here, really. I thought that they tried to pull this off once in the past, but it never came to fruition. Although I do have to admit that I find the real housewives of LA mildly amusing...guilty pleasure I guess.

I'm very new to Westchester Co. and your comment "too vanilla" tickled me!! I moved from Honolulu, very un-vanilla, and I worried that I'd end up in Vanillaville. My sister's longest running friend so wants us to move into Rye or Greenwich, near her, but I so don't want to live with primarily white people ever again, and I am white. Wasn't the Age of Vanilla so last century? (It cracks me up when whites become aware of being the minority and it is so shocking to them. We always were the minority races. Light bulb!)

I'm pretty sure the commenter meant vannilla behavior (though the areas mentioned are predominantly white); as in jersey housewives are all white, but their behavior if ridiculous.
Westchester doesn't have be all white if you don;t want it to be. We have everyone.

This is unsettlingly vaguely racist. I can understand not appreciating certain elements of culture, but to broad brush people with dehumanizing terms like 'Vanilla' and not wanting to live 'near groups of a certain race' reminds me of horrid parts of human history.
How can being white and not wanting to live in an all-white area be racist? It's not like the country IS all-white anymore, and if you think that Greenwich or Rye even somewhat resemble 'anytown USA' you have indeed been living in Westchester way, way too long!
The world has many interesting, vibrant cultures, that I personally think make areas a little more fun. In LA, for instance, you didn't have to go into the city or a less desirable area to shop for unique spices, good Mexican, Ethiopian, Thai, Korean BBQ, etc. Here, you do, and even though I have to say it pales in comparison.
Although I did mean boring when I said vanilla - as in, kind of Stepford wife-ish. I doubt there is going to be enough drama on the show to sustain decent ratings.
