Hey guys.

I'm thinking of going down to Mamaroneck soon, just to take some pics around the downtown area and along the shore.

I've been there a few times, mostly passing through as I drove on route 1, and while it looks nice, sometimes looks can be deceiving.

How's the crime in the area?

Lot's of theft? Is it ok during the daytime or should I look over my shoulder at all times?

What areas or streets should I definitely avoid?

Thanks!

Who gave you the impression that there are roving gangs of thugs in Mamaroneck? There is basically no crime here, except for an occasional drunk driver, public intoxication or a random car break in (which is usually left unlocked overnight).

Sure, there are a few run down areas here and there in flood plains where new immigrants tend to congregate around, but none of them would be considered dangerous.

You can read the crime blotter on the Larchmont Mamaroneck patch. The occasional drunk driver, someone found sleeping in a hallway, cat stuck up tree.
Perhpas you should bring your mom & dad and some mace spray just to be sure.

Mamaroneck is completely safe. I have never worried about my safety and I have gone out in Mamaroneck late at night many times.

Mamaroneck I must say has a beautiful downtown area with a lot stores, shops, and mom and pap places. it seems like a nice area, yeah I agree the post 3 posts above me not to far from the downtown area is there is an area where the new immigrants cluster but does not seems like a problem at all, seems like a very safe town not sure how schools are though.

My husband and I are in the process of buying our first place there. We're very excited! The business district is one of the largest as far as Westchester villages go, but there are several commercial areas in the town as well.

I can't really think of any place in Westchester that has a lot of crime, maybe Yonkers I guess, but certainly not Mamaroneck!
