It is not safe to dive them. The water will ruin the engine and components.
However I do believe your probability of getting carjacked around there by Muffy, Duffy, Milsner and Wadsworth III is lower than the probability of getting savaged in the groin area by rouge just escaped from the zoo Madagascar Gerbils while jogging in the woods.
However you already knew that. Admit it, you just wanted to brag to the world that you drive an Italian Sportscar.
It's an honest question...i'm thinking about moving to westchester...and would like to know if it's safe for people to be a little ostentatious without being mugged.
You have a seriously wrong misconception about North Salem/Pound Ridge, and perhaps Westchester County as a whole. You use the words "mugged," "safe" and "hijacked" (read: carjacked) in your questions, so, based on that, I assume that you assume that these areas are part of the South Bronx or something! Nothing could be farther from reality. They are low crime areas with none of the NYC nonsense, crimewise. So, that would be great news to you and you can certainly relax. Many residents of Pound Ridge and North Salem, being upper-middle-class to extremely wealthy, own luxury vehicles of every make and model. In fact luxury vehicles predominate. Perhaps you need to visit these upscale, quiet and semi-rural suburbs in person so you can gain a crystal clear impression of how they really are. Do this to assess what it would be like living or working there as well, assuming that is your ultimate goal, and that owning/driving a "uber-luxury car" w/o being mugged or carjacked is a high priority in making such an assessment. The short of it is you'll be pleasantly surprised!
North Salem is located about 45 miles to the NE (air-distance) of NYC. It is about an hour-and-fifteen minutes from Manhattan by car, assuming no high traffic delays. It is relatively lightly-populated compared to most NYC suburbs; about 5,100 people spread out over 20 sq miles. For comparison, the Bronx is 42 sq miles and contains over 1,500,000 people!! For further demographic detail go to North Salem - History (http://www.northsalemny.org/history.html - broken link) . The sight also gives you a good idea of what the community looks like and what life would be like there.
In addition, the countryside is very picturesque, with many woodlands of oak and maple that are interspersed with open fields frequented by horses on "gentleman farms." It is hilly and rolling and reminiscent of New England and upstate New York! The homes are generally understated, but well-kept and commodious. There are, however, some McMansions, but compared to other parts of Westchester County, they are fewer in number. The residents range from middle class to extremely well-to-do. These folks are mostly well-educated college graduates who work in the professions, academia and big corporations. There are some less-educated nouveau-riche as well, who have made their money from owning car dealerships, construction firms, restaurants, the Mafia, etc. Poverty is virtually non-existent. Violent crime is a rarity. The predominant crimes are home burglaries and DWI.
There you have it. Investigate what N.Salem is really like by googling the internet, talking with real estate agents, and, especially, and more importantly, visit it!!
