Hi,

We are looking at a home that is in Greenburgh. Does anyone know anything about its school district? Woodlands? A few people have said negative things about it. Is the reputation of this school district bad overall? Or it just for the elementary, intermediate or high school? We would consider buying the home if the elementary school is ok, moving out before the kids get to intermediary/HS. Tks for the feedback.

I believe Greenburgh includes different school districts, at least at the lower levels.

You should find out what your specific district would be at the levels you are interested, and check on those (both here and at greatschools, to start.)

My information on the area is rather dated, but Woodlands HS was definitely not a selling point last I heard, and that's probably an understatement. But I have no direct knowledge.

There's Greenburgh Central 7 ("Hartsdale", which is Woodlands HS.....in general the school and district had a good rep a couple of decades ago but doesn't now) and Greenburgh Central 11 (Dobbs Ferry), which is a "good" district, but the many "purists" in this county will say it's not as good as places like Scarsdale, Chappaqua, Ardsley, etc. The rest of the town of Greenburgh uses the village name for the school district (i.e. Ardsley, which is top notch, Elmsford, which is probably worse than 7, etc.).

Thank you both for the replies. So Greenburgh central 7 HS is bad, is that the same for the elementary school? We do not have children yet so it would be quite a few years before we even need to think about HS. If the elementary school is ok I think we would consider buying the house and moving when/if we need to.

wellliv - for what it's worth, an acquaintance once told me that he pulled his daughter out of woodlands high school, because he was extremely unhappy with it for her - he ended up sending her to private school. He said the quality of education was sub-par. I unfortunately don't have much information to provide beyond this - and I wish I had facts/anecdotes to back up the statements - but I did want to pass that along. I don't believe he sent his children to the elementary or middle schools, as they moved to the area when his children were older.

I know this post is old, but since I was searching the boards today for the same information, I thought I'd share something I found:

NYT has some stats on where Greenburgh falls in comparison to other NY schools - testwise:

Greenburgh Central School District - New York State Test Scores - The New York Times

Definitely not inspiring. :-\
