Hi All

I am thinking of moving to White Plains and had a couple questions I hope you can answer?
1. What the safe neighborhoods are to look at. (I need to be near the metro station)
2. What is the average rent for a one bedroom?
3. Is there good public transportation for someone that does not have a car?

Thanks

You really can't live in suburbia without a car.

I thought White Plains was a city and not the suburbs?

White Plains is a pretty big place and your housing options near the train station aren't plentiful. If you want to take the bus to the train then you're going to need to add on a ton of time to your commute. I think that's why the previous poster said a car is necessary. That said, it can be done but you really need to plan carefully where you live.

If you live in one of the luxury buildings on Main St. you can walk and may not need a car for the most part. Although for food shopping, etc its nice to have.

Are you going to sit in your apartment all weekend? Do you plan on having any friends?
Look, you need a car. Period.

I am not a person that goes out a lot and most of my friends live in NYC. I would have access to a car occasionally if I needed one to do big grocery shops.

I have not been to White Plains yet. Are there small grocery stores, restaurants, movie theaters there? What is the nightlife like? I might eventually get a car but is it feasible to go without one for a while?

Yes. You'll be fine without one.
