Hello. We are relocating to Westchester County from Los Angeles and wanted to know what the standard agent fees are to help you find a good lease. Thank-you for any information.

Unless you're dealing with CS Relocation Realty. The guy wanted me to pay one month's rent as his fee. I said no way. He then said he'd ask the owner if he'd be willing to pay half. Crazy. I think they're just hoping companies relocating their employees will pay crazy fees without asking any questions. I don't get why an owner wouldn't just post on Craigslist, which is exactly what CS did.

The agent we have been in contact with says his fee to help negotiate and find us a place is 10% of the first year's lease. Should we find someone else and not sign the contract? We aren't familiar with the areas around Westchester and need someone to steer us in the right direction.

If you are looking for someone to take you all around Westchester and help decide which area to rent in, maybe it is worth paying someone to do that. However if you've honed in on a few areas in the same vicinity, a regular realtor should be able to help at no charge. If you need someone for Larchmont/Mamaroneck/Rye/New Rochelle or Eastchester/Scarsdale PM me and I'll send you the info. for who I worked with.
