We are trying to decide between these two towns can anyone help. We have 5 children and we are well aware about the cost of living in both places. Ridgefield seems to offer more inside the town itself.
Ridgefield is a bit more relaxed, overall, than Chappaqua, with much more of a New England feel to the area. Anecdotally, I grew up with a family who left Chappaqua for Ridgefield, between the two families (two sets of children with a few years between them, but same parents) because Chappaqua did not meet their lifestyle goals. If proximity to Manhattan is not an issue, I would tend to pick Ridgefield over Chappaqua, especially with a large family because there is more to do in Ridgefield/Fairfield and neighboring areas of Northern Westchester.

Yes, Ridgefield also has excellent schools, from what I know of them, so I would say that the school districts are comparable. If you don't need the proximity to the city, Ridgefield, without question would be my pick in a similar situation.

I second bmw's opinion 100%. We have many friends from Ridgefield, and my kids have a bunch of friends in Ridgefield HS. Excellent community, excellent schools. Nothing compares to it in Westchester county for the whole package.
Greeley may rank higher on certain lists, but at a cost, because the school does have a reputation as being one in which there is pressure to succeed. Greeley has had problems with suicides among its students in the past because of this pressure. Ridgefield is a very good school, overall, but does not have a similar reputation for excessive pressure.

How much more "competitive" is it to make a grade in Greeley vs. Ridgefield? Are grades in Greeley curved? It looks like most of the so-called academic pressure comes more from the parents pressuring their own kids and not from the teachers.
