I'm a journalism student at SUNY Purchase in an international issues class where we have to focus on a local immigrant population and issues in the area. I picked the Japanese immigrants in the Hartsdale and Scarsdale area, but I'm not sure where to start.
I know there are two Japanese markets on Central Avenue, but I don't know where else to look. If anyone is from the area or is of Japanese/Asian descent and is willing to talk to me, or knows anyone who is, that would be an immense help!
I will be eternally grateful and treat you to Starbucks or bake you yummy things! Thank you!
You'll find a sizeable community right on Central Ave at Hartsdale Avenue. A little further down central there are a few more by Curry (It's a car dealership).
I think you'd have no problem walking into the establishments and explaining that your student, people will be more than willing to help you.
There are also a few places in White Plains. In the old mall right off of Grove (MLK) and Hamilton there's a huge Asian supermarket. On Mamaroneck Avenue, right where it splits off at Bloomingdale road there's some Asian businesses as well.
Just walk in and introduce yourself, you should be fine.
Hi there I am a Purchase Alumni! In the same shopping center as California Pizza Kitchen on central there is a large Asian supermarket. Look in the yellow pages too. Check on Garth Rd
Thank you so much. I've been in the markets, but have been too shy to really talk to the store owners. Not a good quality for a journalism student!
