I have a daughter who is in 1st grade in a Pelham school elementary. She is a very smart girl, and they are having a difficult time meeting her needs. Do you know if Irvington, Bronxville or Scarsdale would be academically more challenging?
I have researched AP and Gifted schools, but there are none in the Northeast at all!
She attended Kindergarten in the city at a private school and I know now that a private school does not mean better.
I am looking at Irvington because it is more laid back and "real" than other parts of Westchester.
If you have any information, please let me know.
Thanks
Thanks for articles and the school SAT listings. Where did the SAT scores come from? Are the scores available by year? Those articles were great and I learned a lot about certain school systems and their philosophies. Thanks again!!

Don't know where the poster got those SAT scores from, but they sure are not the same as those recently published in the "journal news". Go to LoHud.com and there is a special report on westchester public school districts on the website, including SAT scores for 2006 and 2007.
I posted the SAT scores. Another poster on another thread posted a link to the LoHud site. I copied and pasted into Excel and sorted by highest to lowest. Scores are from 2006.
Wow- you never hear too much about Irvington schools- always how great SAT scores are in Scarsdale and Bxville- but what do ya know!
Also- suprised about Bedford schools- so low. Does anyone know anything about Bedford schools?
I do. I have friends who are teachers in the Northern Westchester area (Katonah, Mt. Kisco, Bedford). The overall SAT's include a hispanic demographic that does not score well, so it brings down the overall SAT for the school. you can dig deeper to get the test scores based on male/female and white/hispanic/black etc. Bedford School District is considered just as good as John Jay (in Katonah) and other better schools in the area. Greatschools.net give some test information broken down by different demographics.
