My Boyfriend and I currently live in Jackson Heights, Queens. However, we both work in White plains and I attend school in the village at NYU.

We were thinking of moving to Westchester to be closer to our jobs and to move away from the hustle and bustle of the city a bit. We just aren't sure which towns to look in.

I've been doing some research and it seems that rentals (in our price range, that is) are somewhat difficult to find. That being said we are looking to find a 1 bedroom with a max budget of $1500/mnth, with an Ideal rent hovering somewhere around $1100-$1200/mnth. We are also open to studios, but would much rather have a one bedroom.

In addition to our budget, we would need a pet friendly establishment as we do have a cat and a small dog. We would also need to be within walking distance (20 min. or less) to a train station, preferably along the Harlem line as both of our jobs are in White Plains, because we currently do not have a car.

All that being said, any input that you might have is greatly appreciated.

I am in the same boat. Rents in White Plains has gone high ~ 2K.
In White Plains you can look into Bank Street Commons, Seasons, Avalon and Gramercy if you could take the 2K in rent.
You can try looking Craigs list too. I am looking into sharing a 2 bed 2 bath which could bring the rent to 1.5K range

You're probably going to want to look for a multi-family home, as that rent is really low. I saw one apartment in Sleepy Hollow for $1300 that was a nice one bedroom and wasn't too far from the station. But the rent is low, you're going to have a rough time. Just keep that in mind!

Thank you both for your input. I look on craigslist daily, but I will continue doing so.
