Does anyone know if Pelham Union Free School district allows you to "tuition-in" to one of their elementary schools?
Thanks

Hi Nonny,

Thanks....I was a little confused by it because I had called one of the elementary schools earlier this year and was told no, that they did at one time, but had stopped accepting students a few years ago.
Now, someone told me that I would have to contact the school district. I will go ahead and do that to inquire about the option, but do you happen to know if that is the right way to go about doing it?
Trying to avoid having to switch my daughter mid year into school once we are settled in our new home.
The timing of our sale/purchase/ closing is not working out to look like it will be ready for Sept/Oct.
Was exploring the option of just paying the tuition to have her begin on time in Sept.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Prospect or Hutch. have two offers in on two different homes. Depending upon insepction and other issues (one is a short sale) we are going with the better of the two. Unfortunaltey, due to the closing date getting bumped back on the sale of our home, our purschase will be pushed back as well a bit.

I know we will be ending up in Pelham this year; I just hate the thought that due to timing of selling/purchase, my daughter will be switched mid year. Trying to just have her start in September as we had planned, even if that means paying the out of district tuition until we officially close ont he sale of our home in Pelham. Timing of this is so difficult!!!! If she wasn't starting school, it really wouldn't matter to us when we finalize everything. Gosh, I wsh it were easier.

I am almost certain that Pelham does not allow students to tuition in to elementary school, and even when they did in the past, you didn't get to choose which school, it was based on where there was room. I called and spoke to someone at the BOE about this when we moved to the area, and know of others who have tried unsuccessfully since. That said, having an executed contract on a house might be a different story.

Perhaps you could start your daughter at a nearby private or Catholic school for the year until you close on your house. It would mean having her attend the school for one year but I think that might be better than in the middle of the school year. That is one of the options I was considering depending on what happened with our apt. search.

I have researched some schools in the Pelham-New Rochelle area if you are wondering about any of the schools.

Good luck! Having to factor in the school issues when moving makes things so much harder! Good luck!!
