as a writer I think it'd be great if you learned a bit more about the atmosphere of the river towns, they're all similar yet they have things that make them distinct.
shoot me a dm, I'll definitely share some more examples and places where you can view photos.
South ossining i would say is a little rough but it still has it's beauty as it is the oldest part of ossining. South ossining is what we call "ghetto" but not by much .
What's considered "rough" or "ghetto" in the southern part of Ossining would be just a regular middle to lower-middle-class area anywhere else. It's the comparison to the rest of the town, which is very lovely and well maintained, that makes those areas look bad. However, there's nothing dangerous about those areas. Like others have said, you get the best views of the Hudson there.
O, very good to know. When some one says Ghetto, you somehow (at least, I do) immediatly think of gangs and guns and stuff. Good to know it's not the case in Ossining.
Another interesting point is that most people consider all of Ossining to be "ghetto" even though it's very average, in comparison to all the other wealthy towns around the area
We just bought a home in Ossining . Love everything about this town. Looked at many areas yet kept coming back here. My husbands office is in the city so he now has an easy commute.it's railway is right on the Hudson very scenic . Our home is beautiful plenty of land great neighborhood . Lots of winding roads and lush hills to get to our house and it's a sanctuary ! We look forward to great dining and boating on the Hudson . I have read many blogs some very positive a few bit bitter because of cultual differences. The people are very friendly. It's not overly commercialized like white plains. That's the beauty of it your just a drive away to other neighboring towns in search of just that.
I'm with Mariwestchester on this one. We just moved to Ossining, too. The people here are more down to earth than in other parts of Westchester. As for a ghetto...have not seen it. Have seen some run-down parts of town but they were still clean. I like the mix of people here. I like the size of it...big but not overwhelming. And we have so much privacy it tickles my head. Commute is do-able. The prison is a non-issue. You can't see it. You don't know it's there unless you are down on the water next to it or passing it on the train. This is a sweet little town. Nothing ghetto about it.
