I'm looking for an apartment in White Plains (just for a few months), and I really would like to stay in a nice neighborhood that's safe for walking. I'm considering an apartment on Mamaroneck Avenue, near the intersection with Maple Ave. Is it in a generally safe neighborhood? Also, how would be the walk from there to the TransCenter? Any feedback would be appreciated!

In a nutshell - safety wise you are fine. Very convenient place to live too - you will see :-) It can be a bit of a walk, though to me 12-15 mins is ok.

I haven't rented an apartment in years, but when I did live in White Plains, and shopped for apartments then, I didn't find anything that had less than a one-year lease. I suppose shorter ones are out there though.

Its about a 15 minute walk from the transcenter, very safe area. If you look in the area between Maple and Mamaroneck (Carhart avenue splits this area into two), you might find a deal on an unlisted apt (there are plenty over there). The trade up would be that it'd be a longer walk to the transcenter.
