I recall, many years ago, a friend had a row boat that he kept chained to a tree in the woods alongside a reservoir in (what then seemed) way-north Westchester. I now live around there, and was wondering what the rules and options are for such arrangements.
Are permits required to be on the water anywhere in the County, or only some bodies? Where does one find what bodies small, non-motor boats are allowed on (with or w/o permit)? Is my friend's storage solution -- which seemed odd to me then -- common/legal, and if so where?
I know there is some information on boating at the West Rec website, but it seems limited to identifying where you can rent boats, and three ramps for launching them. What I'm wondering about -- and understand exist -- are places where you can fish (assuming you're licensed) from a small rowboat without going to a major launch point. Anyone know about that?
Thanks very much for the link. Since it says boats must be left on site and gives a tel #, I imagine they'll be able to tell me how I'd go about leaving (as well as registering) a boat. So this is just what I was looking for.
