We're finally after 10 years going to make the leap out of Westchester county, and have our eyes pinned on Dutchess County - Wappingers Falls/Beekman/Pawling area, and Wester Conn. territories (Fairfield - Danbury/Woodbury/Brookfield/Southbury areas). We are a family of 5, and need an A class public school district and are looking for @3000SF of living space. Our salaries are compatible with these areas, yet it doesn't necessarily need to be a Scarsdale type of village.
Can anyone chime in if they have any experience with the aforementioned towns, and can make any recommendations if I missed a neighboring town which may be above or equal status? -Thanks

You can find a great home in the New Fairfield/Danbury/Brookfield area. Property taxes are much lower than what they would be in NY. Does the square footage amount include the basement? There are good amount of properties in all of the towns around here matching your home needs. I can't discuss schools.
Dutchess is more like a backwoods rural area.
Almost no professionals, just blue collar and muni worker types.
Where exactly will you be commuting to?
