Hello- Just a general question. If a home does not have a garage or driveway- would one need a permit from a village to install an asphalt driveway? Have no clue about this stuff. How about a gravel driveway? Another question- if a permit is needed- would obtaining a permit for such- increase property taxes?

Question- does your property have a curb at the street ?

If you have a curb, then you need to take out out a permit for a curb cut. A curb cut is the width/ space needed to remove the curb for the driveway.

There is no guarantee that a curb cut will be granted. Contact the local building department with the question. Do not attempt to put in a driveway without a curb cut permit- the fines can be costly.

The permit is needed as the town has concerns as to where utility lines/ poles may be/ sight lines from the road/ town rights of way along the property lines/ drainage issues, sidewalks, etc. .

The driveway does not increase your taxes, no matter what type you put in. A garage will increase your taxes.

Thanks for the info. Yes- there is a curb. so- basically- there is a chance that a permit would not be granted and I could end up with no driveway? yikes.
