My mother needs to hire someone a few hours a week to stay with my father. He has Parkinson's - he can do most everything for himself still and he's completely mentally competent, but it isn't really safe for him to be home alone these days (fall risk and he gets anxious being by himself). I'm helping my mother find someone so she can get out on her own.
What's the going hourly rate for this kind of companion care? Ideally the person would do a little light housekeeping as well (picking up a bit, clearing up the dishes/kitchen, maybe doing a little laundry). No medical care or heavy lifting.
And where's the best place to find people? Someone suggested Sittercity and Care.com - has anyone used them for finding elder caregivers? Any Westchester based resources? My parents live in Bronxville.
