My husband and I are considering a move to NY for his job. I will be in Manhattan next month interviewing for a few jobs, and I also have an interview scheduled in croton-on-Hudson (Montrose to be exact). I am not very familiar with public transit, and I'm nervous about taking the train before an interview. I was thinking about asking a car service to/from the interview, and was wondering approximately how long this may take. The interview is at 9 am, and I'd be coming from west Chelsea. I know I can look it up on google maps, but I was hoping for some insight into the traffic patterns. Thanks in advance.
Grand Central. Massive Metro-North station at Croton. Take a taxi from there to Montrose.
Or just take a taxi all the way for $100 or so? For an interview, I wouldn't chance it.
Taking the Metro North train out of Grand Central Station to Croton-on-Hudson is the easiest and least expensive way to get there. It's about a 10 min drive from the Croton station to Montrose. Google "MTA Metro North Railroad" to find train schedules between NYC and Croton-on-Hudson (which is on the "Hudson Line").
There are many car services in NYC that can take you from there up to Westchester; some are better than others. I happen to work for a limo company/car service based in Westchester, and we do a lot of trips in and out of NYC. Our fare from the Chelsea area up to Croton would run around $95-100 for the base fare, plus round trip tolls, plus a $9 surcharge to cover higher fuel costs, plus tax and gratuity. While you can likely find companies charging less money, they would also have older cars, may employ drivers who don't speak English very well, and may not be as punctual/reliable as a larger, more reputable company.
The trip by car from Chelsea to Croton to make a 9 am interview should take roughly 1 hour to 1 1/4 hours (it could be a little less, but I'm erring on the side of caution). Most of the traffic should be coming into NYC, not heading north out of town, and up near Croton, the traffic heads south toward White Plains in the morning. So you should be travelling in the opposite direction as most of the traffic (I say "should" because I don't drive in the mornings, so i can't be 100% sure).
If you'd like info regarding the various car services - which ones are better and which are less desirable, send me a PM.
