If I were working in Armonk.... when I worked in NYC, we used to live in Park Slope, Brooklyn which was like heaven to us because we have two very young children.
So now if I'll be working in Westchester, two questions:
1. please confirm that the reverse commute from Brooklyn to Armonk would be insane ... ?
2. are there any wonderful towns w/in 45 min of Armonk which might provide some of the things we liked about Park Slope (walkable, things to do w/ young kids, tight community, schools, parks, etc.) ?
We're coming up to tour around in a few weeks - so are there specific areas we should check out while we're there? We're thinking of exploring the Port Chester/Rye area first, then maybe going up to Cold Springs - maybe even up into Putnam county a bit (Carmel/Brewster), and back down to Dobbs Ferry - not sure where to focus the search, what to see in these places to get a feel for the towns, what the scoop is and / or if I'm missing out on a real gem somewhere else ...
(We'll need something on the sane side of expensive -renting to start, can do 3K/mo. or so)
Forget commuting from Brooklyn to Armonk. And forget Cold Spring, it is much too far away.
I would look at Mount Kisco and Pleasantville. Mount Kisco has a large and vibrant downtown and is located in the Bedford School District, which has a good reputation. Pleasantville is a smaller version of Mount Kisco. Both are located in very close proximity to Armonk.
I work in Armonk myself. Any towns in Pleasantville or Mt. Pleasant is good. I live now in Thornwood which is one road away from Armonk (Nanny Hagen Rd).
Port Chester is an illegal immigrant hellhole. Stay away at all costs.
Hi!,
My name is Rich.
Armonk is convenient to everything the city has to offer and with many of the suburban towns and villages around Armonk, you should fit in nicely. Pleasantville and Mt. Kisco offer the downtown feel you would desire and with the trainline its easy for getting around into the city. The cultural mix and creative lifestyles of the Nyacks and Grandviews are easily within your desired commuting distance and about 16 miles from the George Washington Bridge.
Best Wishes,
Rich
